— The Sacred Beginning —
Hidden in the serene hills of Uttarakhand lies Lakhamandal, an ancient and spiritually powerful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by mountains and the flowing Yamuna River, this sacred place carries centuries of devotion, history, and divine energy.
Panch Dham presents Lakhamandal as the first step of your spiritual journey — a place where your yatra begins not just physically, but spiritually.

Spiritual Significance
Lakhamandal is a revered Shiva temple known for its deep-rooted connection with faith and devotion. Devotees believe that visiting this sacred place helps remove negativity and brings spiritual clarity.
The temple is especially known for its unique Shivling, which shines and reflects when water is offered — symbolizing purity and divine presence.

Ancient History
Lakhamandal is not just a temple, but an ancient temple complex with roots dating back to early centuries of Indian civilization. Archaeological findings suggest that the site has existed since at least the 5th–8th century, with the present structure built around the 12th–13th century.
The name “Lakhamandal” comes from the words “Lakha” (many) and “Mandal” (temples or lingams), as this area once housed numerous Shiva shrines and lingams.
Connection with Mahabharata
Lakhamandal holds a powerful connection with the epic Mahabharata.
It is believed that this is the place where Duryodhana built the infamous Lakshagriha (house of wax) to burn the Pandavas alive. However, the Pandavas escaped through a secret tunnel, which is still associated with this region.
Nearby caves, often referred to as Pandava caves, are believed to be part of this legendary escape, making Lakhamandal not just a temple, but a place where mythology comes alive.
